Barely a week goes by without at least three calls asking if Chadwicks is for sale. The rapid consolidation in our sector has spawned a small army of increasingly determined young men and women, chasing commissions from retiring IFA practices.
For me, boutique still conjures up Carnaby Street in the sixties, swinging London, boots and mini-skirts, and the odd Austin Powers lookalike doing the twist. But once I’d got past the imagery, the description started to feel rather apt. In a world where more and more advice firms are being swallowed up by large, PE-backed consolidators, boutique may be exactly the right word for what Chadwicks is aiming to be: focused, thoughtful, independent-minded and very deliberately different.
We describe ourselves as a boutique firm not because we’re small, but because we’re built differently. “Boutique” is about focus, depth, and intent. It’s about choosing expertise over hierarchy, collaboration over silos, and evidence over opinion.
In a world where many financial firms chase scale, we’ve chosen to build something more thoughtful: a firm where every adviser is highly qualified, every conversation is grounded in research, and every client benefits from the collective intelligence of the whole team.
All our advisers are economics or investment graduates, and every employee holds at least a degree‑level qualification. Every adviser is Chartered, either through the CII or the CISI, which puts us well above industry norms.
We’re based at the University of East Anglia and work closely with Norwich Business School and the School of Economics. Two of our team are assistant professors: one in macroeconomics, one in behavioural economics. That blend of academic rigour and practical experience shapes everything we do.
We cover the full spectrum of financial planning, with particular strength in investment management and business strategy, especially succession planning. We also bring a deep understanding of the human side of major life transitions, helping clients navigate change with clarity and confidence as they lay the foundations for their Next Act
We’re evidence‑based investors, and that mindset extends to the wider business: how we make decisions, how we test ideas, and how we support clients through complex transitions.
Large firms have to design their compliance processes around the lowest level of adviser competence. Our “lowest common denominator” is significantly higher, thanks to our qualifications and experience.
For clients, this means our advisers have more room to think, adapt, and tailor advice, while still staying comfortably within the rules. It’s a rare combination: strong governance without the rigidity.
In many firms, advisers guard their client relationships, and clients only ever hear one person’s view. We’ve built the opposite culture.
We work openly and collaboratively. It’s normal to walk into the office and see people working in twos and threes, discussing cases, challenging ideas, and sharing perspectives. Clients often speak with several advisers and support staff, not because they’re passed around, but because we want them to benefit from the whole team’s insight.
Our focus on helping business leaders create value naturally connects us with a network of external specialists, lawyers, accountants, consultants, and sector experts. We draw on this ecosystem when clients need additional support or when we want to test an idea from multiple angles. It means clients don’t just get a financial planner; they get access to a wider circle of expertise.
“Small” is about headcount. “Boutique” is about identity.
It’s a deliberate model, one that gives clients the best of both worlds: the personal attention of a small firm and the intellectual firepower of a much larger one.
If we sound like the kind of people you want in your corner, whether you’re planning your own Next Act, weighing up succession for your business, or simply want a second opinion grounded in genuine expertise, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch with the Chadwicks team to start the conversation.
